Agnes Husslein-Arco studied art history in Vienna and Paris. In 1981 she opened the Vienna office of Sotheby’s and managed the branches in Vienna, Budapest and Prague until 2000. Agnes Husslein-Arco has been a museum director since 2001. She headed the Rupertinum in Salzburg and was the founding director of the Museum der Moderne Salzburg. She was responsible for numerous major projects such as the establishment of the MMKK – the Carinthian Museum of Modern Art. From 1990–1998 she served as Director of European Development at the Guggenheim Museum and from 1990–2000 as the organizer of the Guggenheim Association Salzburg and the Austrian Guggenheim Advisory Board. From 2007–2016 she ran the Austrian National Gallery Belvedere with great success. From 2017 to 2022 she was a board member of the Leopold Museum Private Foundation, where she curated the first presentation of the Heidi Horten Collection. She is now the director of the private museum “Heidi Horten Collection”, which opened in 2022 in the heart of Vienna and serves as permanent exhibition space for the world-class art collection created by Heidi Horten during the 1990s.
