Lifetime achievements
Rudolf Scuster is a renowned and successful Slovak writer, documentary filmmaker, author of television and radio scripts, photographer, politician and statesman. He was Lord Mayor of Košice, Chairman of the Slovak National Council and Ambassador of Czechoslovakia to Canada. From 1999 to 2004 he was the President of the Slovak Republic elected in direct elections. He was instrumental in Slovakia’s accession to the European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance. He has written dozens of books, mostly non-fiction, several of which have been published abroad. He has received a number of honorary doctorates from prestigious universities and has received the highest honours from Slovakia, Austria, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Italy, Spain and others.
